Lately, in class, I’ve been sharing from the Yoga Sutras, one of the foundational texts of yoga, and reflecting on what yoga truly is. In many spaces, yoga is often equated solely with the physical postures (asana). While yoga is an incredible tool for mobility, strength, and balance, it offers so much more—if you are open to receiving it.
The word yoga means to yoke—to bring together, to unify, to reconcile opposites. When practiced in its fullest sense, yoga isn’t just about the body; it’s about integrating the physical, mental, and emotional layers of yourself into a state of coherence. It’s about finding alignment within so that you can move through life with greater ease, awareness, and connection.
Breath-aligned movement is one of the fastest ways to draw yourself back to center and reconnect inward. This takes practice, and it takes compassion for yourself. Even after years of practice, there are days when that centered place feels elusive. That’s why we return to our mats—again and again—not to perfect a pose, but to deepen our understanding of ourselves.
Yoga offers a pathway back to our truest essence. It invites us to step beyond the distractions of the external world and listen inward. It asks us to cultivate awareness, patience, and trust—not just in our practice, but in our daily lives. It reminds us that we are more than just a physical body; we are dynamic beings with the ability to transform, to heal, and to create balance in all aspects of our lives.
My hope is that Rasa Yoga is a space where you find refuge when life feels challenging and a place to celebrate when you’re thriving. A space where you are seen, supported, and encouraged to return to yourself—to that deep inner knowing that has always been there.
As we move into this next month, I’d love to hear what yoga means to you. What has your practice given you beyond the physical? What are you hoping to cultivate more of in 2025? Share your thoughts, and I look forward to seeing you in class soon.
