A simple sentence, a new path

There are moments in life when you know something big is about to happen—the first day of college, standing at the altar before saying “I do,” or waiting in the parking lot of the hospital before giving birth. You can feel the shift coming before it even arrives.
And then there are other moments—quiet, ordinary ones—that only reveal their significance in hindsight.
One of those moments for me happened on a simple car ride from Houston to Galveston. My husband and I were chatting, just passing the time on our way to the beach. At the time, I was working in retail cosmetics—where appearances, gossip, and external success defined the culture. I was caught up in a story, venting and replaying some workplace drama, when he turned to me and said gently, “This isn’t you.”
It landed like a stone in my chest.
There was something about the way he said it—no judgment, no frustration—just truth. I could feel a crack open inside me. In that moment, I realized I didn’t like who I was becoming. I was measuring my life by the wrong things: approval, achievement, image. My outer world was polished, but my inner world was restless.
That moment was a fork in the road. I didn’t know it then, but it was the start of a new path—a path that would lead me deeper into the study of yoga and Ayurveda, and ultimately to founding Rasa Yoga.
When I stepped into more in-depth study, everything began to change. Yoga became more than physical practice—it became a way of seeing, relating, and being. I learned to meet myself with awareness and compassion, to move from reaction to reflection, and to root my life in connection rather than comparison.
And along the way, life happened. I trained through the births of my children. I moved cross-country. I navigated the same messy, beautiful challenges we all face. But what stayed steady through it all were the practices that helped me return to myself again and again.
That’s why I continue to study and to teach—because transformation doesn’t happen all at once. It unfolds through small, consistent choices to listen, learn, and grow.
If you’ve ever felt that quiet nudge to go deeper—to understand yourself beyond the surface, to steady your inner world, or to live with more clarity and heart—maybe this is your moment too.
At Rasa Yoga, we offer many ways to explore that next layer of study and practice, from community classes to retreats, meditation challenges, and in-depth training. Each one is an opportunity to listen to that inner voice that says, “There’s more here for you.”

May this story remind you that sometimes, the most ordinary moments are the ones that change everything.
