Presence when the to-do list takes over!

Ever think, "I'm not sure if I'll ever get this done"? Maybe your to-do list is long, and time seems short. As I write this, I am preparing to leave for my annual yoga retreat, where we turn inward, switch off technology, and set an intention to remember who we truly are. It's a powerful time, and you may have noticed other teachers in our studio taking similar retreats. Each year, the list of things needing attention before I step away seems to grow, so I thought I'd share what I'm doing to stay present and honor this transition.

Breathe: Seriously. It's simple but powerful. Pausing to check in with your breathing (just like we remind you in class) is huge. The space between the trigger and the response is where you'll find wisdom. Does this really need to be addressed right now? Take a breath, and trust yourself—you'll know the answer.

Ask for Help: This is the hardest for me. Taking the time to see what can be delegated can create space for the things that truly only YOU can do.

Trust: I am practicing leaning into the greater force, trusting that everything needing attention will get it, and anything I don't have time for doesn't need attention yet.

Stepping away is an important part of a yogic lifestyle. It doesn't need to be a week or more, but if you feel inspired to take a mini step back, try setting down the phone (or even gasp turning it off) for 1-3 hours one day. You just might find that when your time is up, you've learned something new about yourself, the world, or the people around you.
